Urban Initiatives is happy to welcome one of its two newest Work to Play partner schools Nixon Elementary. Located in the Hermosa community, Nixon Principal Mr. Gerald Paul Byers really shows how much he cares for his school and his students by being just as committed as they are. OSPD Jason Bohrer teaches the Work to Play program to his team and has been doing an amazing job through the first three weeks of the Fall season.
There is a full roster of 40 boys and girls with many more wanting to join. Coach Helena, the Nixon Program Associate received quite the treat on Nixon’s fist day of practice. Kids came in full of excitement and ready to play soccer that it set the tone for the entire season of fun. The Nixon team immediately loved and learned the new games and soccer moves their coaches taught them.
Every player’s eyes lit up when coach gave them their brand new Nike shin guards and socks that they get to wear during each practice and game. Their first Friday scrimmage of the Fall season saw Principal Byers come out and watched the kids play. The kids were so happy seeing such a friendly face cheering them on.
Urban Initiatives looks forward to having a long pasting impact on the kids and families at Nixon Elementary! Have a great season!
