On Thursday, June 13th, Urban Initiatives (UI) hosted its first sit-down fundraising event, the Game On Gala, at RPM Events. This remarkable evening brought together philanthropists, donors, coaches, community members, UI alumni, and notable guests to underscore the importance of sports and play for Chicago youth while celebrating UI’s 20th anniversary in a formal and impactful way.
The event was highlighted by a fireside chat featuring UI’s Executive Director Jim Dower, Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts, and UI alum Lizbeth Barajas. The conversation started as an insightful reflection on UI’s journey but quickly evolved into a heartfelt dialogue led by Lizbeth, who shared the personal impact UI had on her life and how the unique opportunities she received through the program contrasted with the experiences of her peers. You can watch the full fireside chat here.
Special guests Richard Dent and Otis Wilson added even more excitement to the evening, helping to rally support for UI’s mission. The event was a tremendous success, raising an incredible $2.4 million in support of the organization’s work.
The night honored Pete Peter B. Cherecwich, presented by Northern Trust, and the contributions of the dedicated host committee, including:
