Urban Initiatives loves working with volunteers from Northwestern’s Civic Education Project (CEP). CEP is an award-winning leadership and civic engagement program. We are thrilled to have taken part in their CivicWeek for the past few years.
On March 24th, CEP volunteers served as Assistant Coaches at Morton and Otis during our early morning program session. As the participants practiced for the last time in the winter season they got to work with an estimated 10 CEP volunteers in their gymnasiums.
The CEP volunteers helped setup for the different drills. They also participated in every drill with great enthusiasm that rubbed off on the kids immediately. During the numbers game it was great seeing how quickly they learned and interacted with the kids. It was fantastic seeing them high five the kids when the kids made a good play and also saying words of encouragement when they made a mistake.
When the practice was over, the CEP volunteers shared nutritious snacks with the kids. Kevin Palmore a 2nd grader said, "That was fun! When are they coming back?" Highlighting how much fun the CEP volunteers added to practice.
Thank you to the CEP volunteers for coming out on a chilly morning and volunteering with such a vibrant energy, we hope to see you again in the future.
