Urban initiatives’ 2013-2014 program year was certainly one to be remembered. Participants across all three of our programs played hard, had hours of fun, and made many new friends. Urban Initiatives’ programs, though, aim to provide kids with so much more, and our 2013-2014 program evaluation results tell the important story of learning, growth, and change. Here’s a snapshot!
WORK TO PLAY
Health – Participants’ average Body Mass Index decreased by 4% based on percentile rankings by the end of the year
Academics – Participants were 20% more likely to meet or exceed state standards on the Illinois Standard Achievement Test than their classmates
Socio-emotional Learning – Participants were 29% more likely to practice self-control and 23% more likely to exhibit cooperation and compassion by the end of the year
TAKE THE LEAD
Health – Team Captains’ average body fat percentage decreased by 6% by the end of the year
Academics – 97% of Team Captains exhibited high levels of classroom task persistence by the end of the year
Leadership & Socio-emotional Learning – Team Captains were 46% more likely to exhibit resilience and 41% more likely to practice cooperation by the end of the year
PLAY WITH POTENTIAL
Health – Students at Play with Potential schools were 45% more likely to engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity than students at other schools
Academics – Teachers were 59% more likely to report student focus in the classroom following the implementation of Play with Potential
Socio-emotional Learning – Students at Play with Potential schools were 2 times more likely to engage in prosocial behaviors at recess and 3 times less likely to engage in negative behaviors at recess than students at other schools
