Each year Urban Initiatives expands its sports based youth development programming into new schools and communities across Chicago. The number of kids we serve grows every year and that growth leads to exciting opportunities and additions to the Urban Initiatives team. From Operations to Programming, our new team members will help Urban Initiatives continue to serve thousands of kids across Chicago.
Meet Katie! Katie found her way to Urban Initiatives all the way from Stonington, Connecticut and joins the UI team as the first ever Evaluation and Volunteer Manager. Katie will connect with all of UI’s amazing volunteers and sure they have the time of their lives while working with our kids. Her work with Evaluation is as equally important because she will help track the positive changes UI kids undergo as they participate in Urban Initiatives programming.
What drew you to Urban Initiatives?
I was first drawn to Urban Initiatives by working in CPS schools and hearing such great things across the board about UI programs from administrators, parents, and students.
What are you most excited for in your new role?
I am most excited about being part of such a data-driven organization. I love that quality is the top priority and UI is constantly finding new ways to measure and enhance their programs.
What’s your favorite sports or play memory?
My favorite sports memory would have to be when the Red Sox broke the curse and getting to finally celebrate a win in a Yankees family.
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
One thing that most people don’t know about me is that I used to surf every morning before high school.
What’s your favorite snack food?
My favorite snack food is celery and peanut butter, I’ll never be too old to enjoy it!
