The Chicago Cubs invited Urban Initiatives families to their baseball game on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. And what a game it was! In an exciting back-and-forth slug fest that saw six home runs, the Cubbies prevailed 13-9. The victory was due in large party to Anthony Rizzo’s two home runs, one of them being his first career grand slam. It was a special day not only for Rizzo, but for the UI families as well. The kids and families were on their feet throughout this high-scoring game, cheering loudly and high-fiving one another.
All of the families would have been more than happy with just the baseball game, but the Cubs showed their love and support of Urban Initiatives by adding even more fun to the day! Prior to the baseball game, the families were treated to a pizza party at D’Agostino’s. The smell of D’Agostino’s delicious pizza attracted some unexpected guests – none other than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! In town to promote their new show on Nickelodeon, the guys in green crashed the pizza party to take photos with the kids and accompany the families on the trolley ride from the restaurant to Wrigley Field. The kids were sad to say goodbye to Leo, Donny, Raph and Mikey once the trolley arrived at the stadium, but the turtles had a special mission – to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game! This was a day our families will never forget, and we owe it all to the Chicago Cubs. Go Cubs Go!
