For the past two years Urban Initiatives’ Junior Board has spent the month of May engaging in a little team building, a lot of friendly competition, and a huge amount of fundraising. We’re only two weeks away from May 1, and that means just one thing: the Third Annual Junior Board Bus Campaign is here!
In preparation for the Campaign, the Junior Board held a kickoff party at Kinmont in River North last night. The turnout was great, and everyone was excitedly strategizing about how to improve on their fundraising efforts from last year.
Each Friday, hundreds of K-8th grade children in Urban Initiatives’ Work to Play program ride in yellow school buses to parks, sports facilities, and schools across Chicago to play in friendly soccer matches against children from other Urban Initiatives schools.
Providing Urban Initiatives kids with a safe and reliable mode of transportation to Friday Game Days and cultural field trips is a necessity and a priority. Through the Bus Campaign, our amazing Junior Board has raised more than $40,000 in the past two years!
The Junior Board’s buses officially start to roll on May 1st, and the competition continues through the end of the month. We have set a lofty goal of $25,000 this year, enough for 2,500 bus rides this spring. Hitting our goal means every Work to Play soccer player will have a chance to discover a new community in Chicago and make friends with children from across the city.
Don’t wait. Get on the UI bus today!
