United’s team of Corporate Coaches joined Work to Play teams from Faraday, Marquette, and Morrill Elementary for Game Day at Chicago Indoor Sports on April 29. Coaches and players took the field full of enthusiasm for an afternoon of soccer, fun, and friendship.
The volunteers and the players from Morrill kicked things off by warming up with some games and exercises. The crowd favorite was definitely the Numbers Game, where Morrill and United faced off in a series of mini scrimmages. The United volunteers put up a valiant effort, but team Morrill ultimately prevailed.
“I always like to give back to the community, and this was a perfect opportunity to help motivate the kids and really have a good time. It’s a win-win for the kids and the volunteers,” said Cindy Aldworth from United.
When players from Faraday and Marquette arrived, teams squared off in scrimmages as the United coaches provided encouragement and support, working with the players on their soccer skills and promoting the principles of sportsmanship and teamwork.
After two 20-minute games, the players gathered for a quick discussion on the week’s topic–Dedication–before wrapping up Game Day with delicious healthy snacks.
“The positive impact of the program on both the children and the volunteers truly shined,” said United’s Jamee Peake. “Thank you for letting us be a part of it!”
Thank you to our volunteers from United for coming out to Game Day! It was a wonderful afternoon of friendly competition for players and coaches alike.
