Colophon

“Colophon” comes from a Greek word meaning ‘a summit,’ ‘top,’ ‘finishing.’ It is a description of the details and methods behind a publication, often found on the last few pages of a book.

Typography

The Urban Initiatives logo was set in Bullpen. The tagline makes use of the Gotham font family. This site utilizes Cufón to render out page titles and subtitles. The serif titles are Clarendon LT Std Bold  the sans serif titles make use of the Gotham font family. Body text for the site is set in Verdana, a web safe font.

Design

Neoteric Design designed and developed this site. Neoteric redesigns websites with a focus on customer needs, site goals, ease of use and engaging design. The site redesign was launched in the summer of 2009 prior to the start of the fall semester for many of Urban Initiatives' schools.

Technical

We used Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash and TextMate to create this site. The site runs on PHP. Content is maintained using Movable Type 4. Additional site features include Flash animation, custom PHP image rotation, JW FLV Media Player, and the aforementioned Cufón. The site is authored using structural XHTML, and complies with the 1.0 transitional web standards as set by the W3C.
